Beyond RTI: Increasing Literacy Achievement with Reading Across the Content Areas

This course will support educator’s efforts to increase literacy achievement. Preparing 21st Century learners requires interventions that boost the skills of struggling readers, but it is equally important to implement teaching and learning strategies that support the development of deep comprehension of all texts.

RTI Interventions: Building Comprehension in Grades 3-12

Decoding and fluency are only part of the puzzle for building comprehension. This session will explore research-based comprehension strategies, along with ideas for explicitly teaching them. Examples of comprehension interventions, along with specific ideas for scaffolding instruction, will be shared. Evaluate assessment data to determine a focus for intervention and discuss ways comprehension can be supported in core instruction. Performing well on state assessments requires more than recall. Increasing achievement means teaching for deep comprehension.

Strong Core Literacy Instruction: The Fab 5 in Grades 3-12

No matter how your district has implemented Response to Intervention, core instruction will more than likely become a focus of your initiative. Beyond aligning curriculum and adopting new textbooks that implement components identified by the National Reading Panel, daily instruction should include effective strategies to reach all learners. Strong core instruction includes research-based strategies to get all learners actively engaged in learning. This session will not only explore “The Fab 5,” it will provide high-yield activities for implementing them. Time will also be given to reflect on assessment data, develop school improvement goals and determine professional development topics.

Supporting RTI with Digital Tools: Technology Integration in Core Instruction & Interventions

Put your technology dollars to work! Beyond entering data to create charts and graphs, technology is a powerful tool for learning. This session will help you make the most of the hardware and software you already have, along with considerations for future purchases. See examples of assessment data and specific examples of interventions using free tools. Explore best practices for integrating technology into core instruction.
